What it is
Bio Nematon is a biological nematicide by T. Stanes & Company, formulated to control plant-parasitic nematodes. The active agent is the fungus Paecilomyces lilacinus (also called P. lilacinus).
Formulations & Active Content
-
Comes in powder (WP) form: ~ 1.15% WP.
-
Also in liquid (LF) form: ~ 1.50% LF.
-
Spore/mycelial fragment count: approx 1×10⁸ CFU/g or CFU/ml depending on formulation.
Target Pests / What it Controls
-
Root-knot nematodes (e.g. Meloidogyne spp.)
-
Burrowing nematodes, cyst nematodes, lesion nematodes etc.
-
Most crop stages are susceptible. It works especially well on eggs and juvenile stages of nematodes.
Mode of Action
-
P. lilacinus spores or mycelia contact nematode eggs or juveniles, germinate, colonize, and parasitize these stages, destroying them and preventing further damage.
-
Helps reduce nematode population in soil/rhizosphere, thereby reducing root damage and improving nutrient uptake.
Benefits
-
Eco-friendly / low toxicity; safe for beneficial organisms.
-
Certified for organic agriculture.
-
Does not cause build-up of resistance in nematodes.
-
Suitable for all crop types.
Usage / Dosage & Application
| Formulation | Recommended Dosage* | When to Apply |
|---|---|---|
| WP (Powder) | ~ 1.2 kg per acre (≈ 3.0 kg/ha) | Before sowing/transplanting; also a follow up around 30 days after planting if infestation is high. s |
| LF (Liquid) | ~ 2.5 litre per acre (≈ 6.0 L/ha) | Same application timing: before transplanting, early crop stage; repeat as needed depending on nematode population. |
*Dosage may vary based on crop, soil conditions, and severity of nematode infestation. Always follow label instructions.
Crops
Applicable to all crops, especially those susceptible to nematode damage. Vegetables (tomato, brinjal, etc.), pulses, cereals, root/tuber crops etc.
